The Uganda Association of Women Lawyers, FIDA (U) is a non-governmental organization that promotes and defends human rights with an emphasis on women and children as beneficiaries. FIDA was formed in 1974 as the Uganda chapter of Federacio Internationales de Abogadas or the International Federation of Women Lawyers. FIDA Uganda was formed as a membership association for female lawyers with a primary objective of promoting the professional growth of its members and helping women access their rights. The FIDA Uganda office is located on Plot 4, Robert Mugabe Road, Mbuya, Kampala district.
Job Title: Legal Clerk (Moroto, Kabong, Napak, Kotido) Department: Legal Aid Clinic
Level: Assistant Officer
Reports to: Legal Officer
Main purpose of the post:
The Legal Clerk is responsible for receiving FIDA-Uganda’s clients and providing them with legal advice according to high standards of professionalism and best practice; aiming to empower vulnerable women and children to enjoy their rights as equals.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Receiving clients and listening to their concerns and at all times treating them with compassion and respect
Ensuring that all appropriate paperwork has been completed and client fees collected according to FIDA-Uganda procedures
Providing financial aid to those who qualify according to FIDA-Uganda’s policies
Available Position: Legal Clerk (4 vacancies) (Moroto, Kabong, Napak, Kotido)

Ensuring that all documentation and filing is carried out according to FIDA- Uganda’s procedures
Receiving documents for archiving; processing them according to standard operating procedures, including making entries into the index system
Monitoring the physical environment where the clients legal files are kept; taking appropriate action to ensure documents will remain in good condition
Person Specifications
An undergraduate diploma in Social Sciences, Law, SWSA, Secretarial Studies, or any other relevant field.
Must be computer literate
Two years’ working experience in the same role, preferably a LASP, is
desirable
Any qualification in Law will be an added advantage
